Festival News

The Palestinian dance artist Salma Ataya is creating a new work for Belfast International Arts Festival 2025.

The piece is part of a dance exchange programme with D-CAF (Downtown Contemporary Arts Festival) in Cairo and Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival in Palestine. The project is funded by the British Council.

We are looking for dancers to collaborate with Salma. The work will be performed at the Crescent Arts Centre, Belfast during our 2025 Festival. It is likely that it will then tour to Cairo and Ramallah in 2026/7.

Salma would like to meet local dancers in an audition workshop at The Crescent Arts Centre on Thurs 29 May (10am – mid afternoon). She is specifically interested in:

  • Contemporary dancers with strong physical understanding
  • Comfortable with improvisation
  • Able to follow imagination and sensations
  • Good partnering skills
  • Curiosity and openness to exploration

Following the workshop, three dancers will be offered a paid engagement to develop, rehearse and perform the work in Belfast as follows:

  • Initial development week in Sept 2025
  • Rehearsals from week commencing 6 Oct 2025
  • Performances at Crescent Arts Centre on 31 Oct and 1 Nov 2025
