A Thirst for Silver – Contemporary British Silversmiths
Craft NI
Exhibition of silver beakers from many of the leading contemporary silversmiths currently working in the UK.
Craft NI is delighted to present A Thirst for Silver, an exhibition showcasing the work of over 50 members of Contemporary British Silversmiths (CBS). CBS is the leading organisation for contemporary silver in the United Kingdom, established to inspire creativity and promote excellence in design and craftsmanship to audiences both nationally and internationally.
A Thirst for Silver presents a collection of silver beakers created by some of the UK’s leading silversmiths. The act of drinking from a silver beaker carries a long history of ceremony and ritual – from shared toasts and moments of celebration to the marking of significant occasions and traditions. Each vessel reflects the enduring relationship between object, maker and user, where craftsmanship transforms a precious material into something rich with meaning.
Featured makers include F1 trophy designer and maker Richard Fox, Rauni Higson MBE, Angela Cork, and Northern Ireland’s own Cara Murphy — Chair of CBS, Royal Warrant Holder, and creator of five recent Grand National trophies.
Together, these works celebrate the beauty, versatility and exceptional craftsmanship of contemporary silver.
Artist Talk with Cara Murphy: 22 Oct, 6pm
