The Golden Thread Gallery is delighted to present Death of a Hunter, Oona Doherty’s first solo gallery presentation and the gallery’s first dance/choreographic exhibition. Featuring video presentation and installation, Death of a Hunter translates a theatrical experience into a visual arts exhibition. Referencing her dance shows Hope Hunt & the Ascension into Lazarus as well as Hard to be Soft – A Belfast Prayer (co-commissioned for the 2017 Belfast International Arts Festival with Dublin Dance Festival and Prime Cut Productions), the work explores masculinity and the role of the “smick” (defined by the Oxford dictionaries as “a young lower-class person typified by brash and loutish behaviour.”) Doherty’s work is visceral and at times uncomfortable, with the stage show described in The Times as “painful yet mysteriously redemptive”.

Exhibition Launch – Sat 20 Oct, 1pm – 3pm
