Éigse Loch Lao was founded in 2010 by the Ulster University and Cumann Cultúrtha Mhic Reachtain with the aim of celebrating and advancing Irish-language scholarship and literature in the city of Belfast through an annual series of events both scholarly/literary and social. The name Éigse Loch Lao (‘Literary assembly of Belfast Lough’) invokes the words of a ninth-century Irish poem composed from a vantage point over Loch Lao/ Belfast Lough.
Language Planning
In light of the work being undertaken in the Gaeltacht and in the Irish Language networks to draft and implement language plans, this conference will investigate issues relating to language planning. Among the speakers will be representatives from Foras na Gaeilge and from the lead organisations as well as other key stakeholder groups. As part of the occasion, a discussion forum will be organised to discuss the overarching plan for the promotion of Irish, especially in Ulster.
