Jon Savage – The Secret Public: How LGBTQ Resistance shaped culture 1955-79

One of Britain’s best chroniclers of music and social history comes to the Festival to mark the publication of his new book about LGBTQ influence on popular culture.

In The Secret Public, the award-winning, Sunday Times bestselling author Jon Savage takes an electrifying look at key moments in music and entertainment history between 1955 and 1979, which helped move gay culture from the margins to the mainstream and changed the face of pop forever.

From Little Richard to David Bowie, Andy Warhol to Dusty Springfield, The Secret Public is an examination of the fortitude and resilience of the gay community through the lens of popular music and culture, and a reminder of the need to remain vigilant in the face of oppression against marginalised groups.
