Mariinsky Theatre Trust (UK)
Mariinsky Orchestra
Conductor: Valery Gergiev
We are proud to present one of the world’s great symphony orchestras under its Artistic Director, Valery Gergiev.
The Mariinsky Orchestra performs an all-Russian programme culminating in Shostakovich’s epic Symphony No.11, whose almost film-like score describes the momentous events of 1905 in St Petersburg. The first half of the programme is dedicated to Russia’s national poet, Alexander Pushkin, and includes Rimsky-Korsakov’s famous ‘Flight of the Bumble Bee’ from the opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan.
The Mariinsky Orchestra was named as one of the top orchestras in the world by Gramophone.
