The Songs of Joni Mitchell
Jesca Hoop, Lail Arad, Richard Sears & Special Guest TBC
Celebrating the life and work of Joni Mitchell, through the unique voices of the artists she continues to inspire.
Following a revered debut at the Roundhouse, sold out tours and rave reviews, and a film of their Paris show now playing on Arte TV, The Songs of Joni Mitchell is very excited to bring the celebration to Belfast International Arts Festival.
Jesca Hoop & Lail Arad, acclaimed singer-songwriters in their own right, will perform intimate interpretations of their favourite Joni Mitchell songs. They’ll be joined by Richard Sears on piano and a very special guest to be announced.
Previous guests include Kate Stables (This Is The Kit), Vashti Bunyan, Simon Armitage, Lisa Hannigan, Loah, Gail Ann Dorsey, Rachel Sermanni, Jackie Kay and Sam Amidon.
Originally conceived and curated by Lail Arad to mark Joni Mitchell’s 80th birthday, the show was described as “a perfect celebration of Joni Mitchell” (Get In Her Ears), packed with “heartfelt and intricate performances”.
Jesca Hoop, just a few months prior, presented Legend: The Joni Mitchell Story, the award-winning 6-part BBC Radio documentary and podcast about the life of Joni Mitchell, lending further gravitas to the event.
Ahead of their last tour Jesca, Lail and Kate Stables released a companion EP: The Songs Of Joni Mitchell Vol. 1. These up close and personal recordings offer fresh interpretations of four treasured Joni songs and provide a lovely hint of what to expect on stage.

Such a stand-out show.
Their voices individually are just perfection. You could hear a pin drop. And then the three part harmonies when they sang together, were just exquisite
A spectacular multi-artist re-casting of Joni Mitchell’s work.
Their version of “Raised on Robbery” is cool fire!
