The Tragedy of Richard III
A Lyric Theatre Production
“Since the heav’ns have shap’d my body so,
Let hell make crook’d my mind to answer it.”
Long live the King…
Think you know Shakespeare? Think again.
You are cordially invited to the coronation of the century. Our King Richard is like nothing you’ve seen before, his ruthless regality was all the rage in the 1400s and makes for quite the scandalous show in 2024!
Richard, the King’s youngest brother, has been diagnosed with a terminal illness. He is now disabled. With the war which placed his brother on the throne now over, Richard has no purpose. What will he do with his dying days? How will he make his mark on the world? But dream upon the crown?
Join Richard as he sets in motion a bloody chain of events that will lead to death and destruction. Watch him rail against an ableist world and tear down the barriers against him. Witness the marginalised Richard reject society and reform it with the same callous disregard that is shown to the disabled.
The production will be a timeless tragedy about hunger for power and the desperate rejection of fate in the face of certain death.
An adaptation of Richard III by William Shakespeare, The Tragedy of Richard III will star Michael Patrick in the titular role and be directed by Oisín Kearney – the team that brought you other smash theatrical hits such as My Left Nut (★★★★★ – Voice Mag UK); The Alternative (★★★★★ – The Sunday Times); and Lie Low(★★★★★ – The Irish Times).
Includes scenes of violence, strong language, flashing lights and smoke or haze effects.
