Michael Longley RIP

We at Belfast International Arts Festival mourn the passing of Michael Longley, a towering figure in the world of poetry. Michael’s illustrious career spanned decades, during which he profoundly influenced the literary landscape of Ireland and beyond.

In November, we were honoured to welcome Michael to the Festival to mark his 85th birthday and the publication of Ash Keys, during a special event at the Seamus Heaney Centre (QUB). The evening was filled with warmth and reflection, and for those who attended, it was a wonderful chance to hear Michael read and to appreciate the depth, wit, and beauty of his poetry.

Our thoughts are with Michael’s family, friends, and all who were touched by his remarkable work.
